The ER Manager / Specialist will have expertise in dealing with complex ER issues. The post holder must be able to work autonomously with minimum supervision to provide specialist ER advice and create HR solutions in line with employment legislation and best practice to Senior Directors, front line managers and the wider HR team. You must be able to provide pragmatic HR solutions and support to all business areas, with a skill set in managing organisational change projects, including restructuring, TUPE, Mergers and Acquisitions and other people impacted initiatives. The ER Manager / Specialist will be a strategic and operational partner to the organisation’s key stakeholders, supporting the company’s strategic and operational requirements. They will proactively develop and implement HR solutions that will support the transformational growth and development of the business, to position the company as an employer of choice and enhance the staff and student experience. The ER Manager / Specialist will work alongside the wider HR team to deliver a robust ER case management.
Key Activities & Responsibilities:
- Proficiently scope the end-to-end consultation project plan for medium to large scale restructuring, redundancies, TUPE, mergers and acquisition, downsizing etc. Must have full accountability of the respective processes from inception to completion, making sure that employment legislation and good HR practice has been fully applied.
- Fully responsible for robust caseload management on a broad spectrum of ER activities including (but not limited to) redundancies, restructures, disciplinaries, grievances, absence management (long and short term), performance management, probationary periods. This will involve:
- Providing specialist advice and guidance to managers
- Reviewing investigation minutes/reports and reviewing outcome letters, making sure that these cover the full scope of investigation before an outcome is issued.
- Reducing the number of appeals from ER cases by making sure that full and robust investigation is undertaken, and all bases are covered in line with ACAS code of practice.
- Manage all ACAS pre-conciliation work and the initial preparation and drafting of ET3 documentation or any other information required to support potential ET claims arising from internal ER issues.
- Ensure that the policies and procedures, internal HR toolkit of templates are fully reviewed and compliant in line with ACAS code of practice and employment legislation.
- Overall responsibility for coordinating ER cases and dealing with escalated queries amongst the team and providing expertise advice on complex ER issues to all UK College Division entities.
- Manage the end-to-end process for high level/sensitive terminations/exits, including drafting settlement agreements, liaising with external lawyers etc.
- Submission of monthly ER Management Information (MI) report to the HR Director, with detailed trends analysis, root cause analysis and providing clear direction and HR solutions on how these can be mitigated.
- Provide monthly HR metrics and HR reports to the heads of the respective client groups (operations and academic teams) and proactively work in partnership with them to drive productivity and resolve any underlying issues.
- Review and revise existing HR policies and procedures in line with employment legislation and business changes, additionally introduce new HR policies and procedures, including making recommendations to the business based on ER outcomes, where applicable.
- Design and deliver robust training and coaching to new and existing managers on HR topics to ensure that managers are competent and consistent in their execution of HR policies and procedures. Must have an annual diarised training plan to ensure that the relevant trainings are completed to schedule.
- Full responsibility for the management of the performance review cycle for all employees within all UK College Division entities. Ensure that managers set measurable KPIs objectives and review performance effectively in line with the company’s values.
- Provide adequate support and relevant training to managers in relation to annual talent evaluation and performance management.
- Lead and oversee any designated HR projects to drive the people agenda in meeting business requirements and undertake additional strategic and operational HR duties in line with departmental and business requirements.
Essential Qualification/Education
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- CIPD Qualified.
Essential Skills & knowledge
- Strong project management skills gained through participation in significant transformation and change management across a matrix organisation.
- A strong and up to date understanding of employment law and its application when dealing with all ER cases.
- Strong analytical skills to conduct organisational diagnosis and produce regular management information reports with HR Solutions.
- Knowledge of overseeing cyclical Performance reviews, talent development and objective settings.
- Must have business/commercial acumen and be solutions oriented.
- Excellent usage of MS Office packages and HR Information Systems.
