Mediobanca is looking for a Junior Algorithmic Trader / Quant Developer to join our algorithmic trading desk, currently focused on fixed income and more specifically on European government bonds. The role sits at the intersection of algorithm development, automated market making, and secondary market execution, with direct exposure to live trading systems and desk decision-making. You will work closely with senior traders, quants, and technologists to design, implement, test, and operate trading algorithms across electronic venues, contributing to both strategy development and day-to-day trading performance. This is an ideal role for a highly quantitative candidate interested in combining market microstructure, automation and AI, and real-world trading. Key Responsibilities Trading & Market Making Monitor and operate automated trading strategies in EU government bond markets. Support secondary market making activities across electronic platforms and RFQ venues. Analyze real-time trading performance, fills, slippage, P&L and risk metrics. Assist in inventory and execution optimization under supervision of senior traders. Algorithm Development Design, implement, and enhance pricing, quoting and execution algorithms. Work on alpha signals, liquidity models, and short-term predictive features. Contribute to back testing frameworks and simulation environments. Participate in deployment and production monitoring of trading systems. Quantitative & Market Research Perform data analysis on order book dynamics, liquidity patterns and execution costs. Support research into market microstructure effects, venue behavior and regime shifts. Assist in strategy calibration and parameter optimization. Risk & Controls Contribute to real-time monitoring tools, alerting systems and post-trade analytics. Support model validation and performance reviews. Help ensure adherence to internal risk limits and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications Education Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics or Quantitative Finance. Technical Skills Strong programming skills (Python and/or C++). Solid understanding of: Data structures, algorithms, and numerical methods. Time-series analysis and statistical modeling. Quantitative & Financial Skills Strong quantitative reasoning and problem-solving ability. Basic understanding of financial markets and instruments. Interest in electronic trading, market microstructure and execution algorithms. Preferred / Nice-to-Have Exposure to: Fixed income products (especially government bonds, futures, repos). Algorithmic trading systems, low-latency systems, or market data feeds. Machine learning applied to time series or trading problems. Experience with: Large-scale data processing. Real-time systems or event-driven architectures. Personal Attributes Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail. Curious, proactive, and eager to learn in a fast-paced trading environment. Comfortable working close to production systems and real capital. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across trading, quant, and tech teams.
